Preliminary Task: Evaluation pt2

Throughout my prelimanary task I thought my team worked very well together, we did have some disagreements due to our different concerns that we had about certain things, but we did manage to work to together and overcome those issues. Overall i'd rate my team work 7/10. Being the camera person there were some issues I came across with how ceratin scenes should be filmed to create the right sense that we wanted the scene to have.
I contributed a fair amount to the task, I gave ideas about how I think the lighting and camerawork would have an effect on the film; i also managed to get one of the actors to participate. Out of 10 i'll rate my personal contribution 8.

After watching our final piece I've realised that I need to work on my camera work a bit, such as getting the characters in fully. I also acknowledged the fact that I zoomed in on one of the characters at the end which is what I wasn't supposed to. What I did do well on was contributing ideas, and I'll continue doing that for my next task.

We had to include 'The 180 degree rule' , 'Shot reverse shot' , and 'Match on action/continuity' in our film. We managed to include all three of the rules, I managed to film both 'the 180 degree rule' and the 'shot reverse shot' which I got whilst both characters were sitting across the table converstaing with one another. The 'match on action/continuity' got made whilst editing our final piece, we found this part quite difficult since we had to get the timing of the two seperate pieces just right, and the continuity was clear, but we managed to do it in the end and it came out very well.

There were some problems that we did come across with things such as lighting, filming and sound. The clock that is shown at the start of the film, both me and another member of my team had troubles trying to film it due to the reflection and the natural lighting, and there we had no choice but to use it due to our location. An issue that i had was I sometimes cut off the top part of the character's head because I was mostly concentrating ron getting the rules in rather than getting him fully in the footage, and another problem was at the end of the film I zoomed in on the character and had forgotten that we weren't supposed to do so. In one of the scenes as the actor gets up to leave and closes the door behind him, we can hear the screeching of the door which we weren't able to get rid of in the editing.

To conclude overall I think my team done a good, we were well organised we stuck to our scheduele and everything ran on time, the setting up and packing away went smoothly. We worked well when we had to edit our final piece, each one of us contributed an idea which helped to improve the film.

Preliminary Task:Evaluation pt1

Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

From my preliminary task I have learnt quite a few things, especially since it was our first time filming our project. Throughout our preliminary task I've learnt different techniques about filming since I was the camerawoman for the piece, as well as learning about filming I also learnt about the use of other equipment that we used for our piece.

PLANNING
To help plan each member of my group drew up a storyboard to help portray our ideas, each storyboard that was drawn up was similar which was of a suspect being interviewed to find out some very important information.
We also had a time sheet  which we used to help scheduele our timing to set up our equipment, film our task  and then pack up.

Preliminary Task: Initial ideas 2

Since our initial idea was to have our task seem like an interrogation I decided to look up some footage of similar types of interrogations. The video below is actual footage of someone being interviewed, this is a good example because we wanted to make our film seem as if it was being watched through a CCTV and this clip shows exactly what we were going for. At the bottom of the screen there's the date and time, and also the quality gives the impression that it's a CCTV footage.

CSI
The television show CSI is based upon investigating different crimes so the show is bound to have interrogation scenes, again his is the same sort of thing we were trying to do. We wanted the person being interviewed sat down, being interrogated and pressured by the interviewer.

Preliminary Task: Initial ideas

Since our task involved two characters having to sit opposite each other and exchange lines, we thought that an interview trying to investigate a situation would be a simple and good idea. Choosing this idea would also help us fit in the techniques that we need, so we decided that getting ideas from the programme CSI and police interviews would relate to our initial idea.

Preliminary Task.

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. The task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot, and the 180 degree rule.

At the beginning of the scene we get a close-up of the character's hands which are hand-cuffed. This gives the viewers a clear idea of whats going on. The camera then follows the character looking at the clock, which we get another close-up of, and it slowly zooms out, to give the impression that the person is anxious.

In the next shot there's a medium-long shot of the character so we could see their body language clearly. In this scene he/she slowly starts sweating, and as it drips there's non-diegetic sound of their heartbeat pumping with every drop, which creates the tense atmosphere; we then get another medium long-shot of the character looking at the door.

Then there's a close-up of someone reaching for the door knob, as the person walks in the camera gets a shot of the feet moving up slowly, doing this not only creates tension but shows that the person has authority. As the camera moves up it stops at the badge, which the camera then zoooms up on, and its then we realise that the character is a police officer.

As the camera moves to the character sitting down, as the camera is zooming into the characters face to get a close-up of his eyes, we then hear the officer ask 'Did you do it?' as they're walking towards the character. 'No' the other character replies, as the officer sits down we get a shot/reverse shot of the two characters giving eye contact between each other, and as they do so the camera slowly zooms in.

In the last scene there's a medium long shot of the interview between the two 'Are you lying ? if you are i will find out,' the officer says to the character, 'No im not,' the other replies with, the medium long-shot being used helps us to see their body language. The 180-degree rule is also used in this scene the camera remains on a particular side and doesn't cross over any time during the scene.
